How to clean and properly maintain your gelato display case is a crucial know-how that will make your work smooth and effective.
When you invest your money into top-range equipment for your business, you might indeed rightfully want to get the most out of it. Every dollar spent on your shop counts, and a great display case can really make the difference in many ways!
A well cleaned display will in fact make your frozen treat shine to the eyes of your customers. But also, it will allow you to ensure an always fresh product, reducing waste and enhancing your products’ shelf life and quality.
Why should you damage or misuse your masterpiece equipment, anyway?
If you have made the damn right decision to pick a luxury display freezer, taking care of it is the only reasonable thing to do. By contrast, being shallow in maintenance could drag you into costly and avoidable mistakes.
Here’s then a quick guide on how to clean and maintain your Gelato Display Case!
How to clean your Gelato Visual Display Case in 5 steps
1) Before you begin: preliminary operations
First of all, as obvious as it may seem, be sure you have turned off the display case. Unplug it completely. Before starting the proper cleaning operations, let it complete a full defrost cycle.
As we have already explained in this post, display cases need to complete defrost cycles every 4-6 hours. This process preserves the machines and prevents any damage coming from unwanted freezing of its components.
Top range cabinets like our IFI’s boast the exclusive HCS system which preserves gelato from heat fluctuations during these defrost cycles.
Anyway, you won’t have any issue if you deep clean your display case with no gelato inside and while you’re working with the freezer unplugged.
Of course, always wear gloves when working with machinery!
2) Open the machine and wash it
Once your preliminary operations are done, time to move to the crucial part.
There will be a few parts of the cabinet you’ll need to take out to get a good clean everywhere. Don’t worry, it’s not rocket science!
Just start by removing:
– The front grill that lets air flow through.
– The front separator panel: the one that separates the back from the pretty display area.
– The middle and back separator panels (these might be held on with screws, so grab your handy pliers or screwdriver).
– The base panels at the very bottom.
Once everything is out, it’s washing time!
Grab your vacuum and clean up any crumbs or debris hiding inside the machine. Wash them with hot water and dish soap. After a good rinse, wipe them down with your disinfectant solution and a red microfiber cloth.
3) Steam the inside
Then comes the next step.
You’ll need to tackle the inside of your gelato visual display case. Firstly, get your steam cleaner ready. Blast away any dirt or grime that’s hiding in the corners and around the cooling fins (those grill-like things).
Use hot water to rinse out the grill and fins at the front of the cabinet. But be careful: don’t use too much water (think 5 liters or less).
And super important: never pour water into the back where the fans are!
4) Drying and disinfecting
Once everything is rinsed clean, grab your trusty microfiber cloth and/or blue paper towels to dry the interior. Drying it perfectly is key to ensure a perfect functioning of the machine afterwards.
Finally, to make sure everything is squeaky clean and germ-free, use a good disinfectant solution to wipe down the inside. Spray it also on top of the fans to make your display case clean and your gelato shine.
Now you can move to the end of the process.
5) Time to put all back together
Before you reassemble your precious gelato visual display case, turn the freezer back on and check if the fans are spinning. If any fans seem like they’re taking a vacation, wait a little. If the problem persists, report it to us.
At Modalita we’re always happy to assist you.
Anyway, if you’ve done things well, there won’t be any problem. Just check that everything’s working properly and then reassemble all the pieces.
